Rebates and Feed in Tariff Solar

Rebates and feed in tariff

What are Solar Rebates?

Asset 1-8
There are two ways you can recoup some of the costs of setting up and maintaining your rooftop solar and battery system. The first way is through Federal government rebates, which can contribute to the cost of purchasing and setting up your system, depending on where you live and what programs are available. Once you have your system installed, the second way is by selling some of the electricity you generate back into the grid, which is called a feed-in tariff.

What are Government Incentive?

Asset 1-8

Government Rebates relates to the solar scheme, during which the federal government of Australia pays you upfront for the system’s expected
power generation up to the year 2030.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)

RECs are certificates that the Commonwealth Government issues as part of its Renewable Energy Target (RET) policy. RECs are a financial tool to facilitate an increased uptake of renewable energy by making it more cost competitive with fossil fuel power generation.

RECs also play a part in boosting the amount of renewable energy produced by electricity generators and retailers to meet their required targets under the RET.

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STCs)

Under the STCs, the Australian Government is offering to pay upfront cash rebates which will ultimately help in the purchase of solar systems. STCs are traded for a value that fluctuates from day to day. STCs apply to domestic and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) arrays under 100kW.

Large-Scale Generation Certificates (LGCs)

We can help in redeeming LGCs for our clients. LGCs does not provide upfront cash benefits. The process is a little more involved than with STCs, however, in return LGCs provide an excellent secondary income stream for owners of solar systems over 100kW in size which are utilized in industrial and utility-scale PV systems or wind farms.

How does this Work?

Asset 1-8
Suntek Energy will register your Solar system with the Commonwealth Government’s Clean Energy Regulator and will install the required hardware such as utility-grade electricity generation metering as well as systems to monitor, collect and store data.

Suntek Energy will then generate LGCs on your behalf – one megawatt-hour of electricity corresponds to one LGC. LGCs are accounted for on an annual basis when they are sold to ‘Liable Entities’ by Suntek Energy, with their value then transferred back to you. This is what gives you the extra income on top of the electricity value generated by your Solar system. While the price of STCs has been inconsistent, LGCs have enjoyed a very stable value over time, making them a great investment.

Feed in Tariffs

Asset 1-8

What is feed in tariff

A Feed-in Tariff (FiT) is a payment that you receive via your electricity retailer as a credit on your bill for excess electricity you feed back into the grid.

How it works

Asset 1-8
Energy produced by your solar power system is converted to electricity and used in your house. Any electricity that isn’t used can be exported to the electricity grid. You may be eligible for a payment for the exported electricity. This payment is called a feed-in tariff.

If you live in South East Queensland, you may get a market feed-in tariff directly from your electricity retailer. There is no mandated rate for electricity exported to the grid so electricity retailers offer competitive, market-based tariff rates. This means you should shop around for the best deal.

We recently had a solar system installed and can't fault the process. Dhyani was friendly, knowledgeable and not pushy. Her follow up has been fantastic and we are very happy we went through Suntek. The system is yet to be switched on but I feel confident that if we had any issues Dhyani and Suntek would assist. Overall a great experience!
